The Devil’s Miner is the story of 14-year-old Basilio Vargas and his 12-year-old brother Bernardino, Bolivian miners in the 500-year-old Cerro Rico silver mines. Through the children’s eyes, we encounter the world of devout, catholic miners who sever their ties with God upon entering the mountain, leaving their faith in the generosity of the Devil, represented by the hundreds of statues constructed in the tunnels, who determines their fate. Raised by a single mother on the slopes of the mines, the, brothers struggle to escape their destiny underground.
